Elisabete Malafaia

Biography

Born in 1978 on a small locality near Viseu (northern Portugal), Elisabete graduated in Geology (2000) at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Coimbra, and concluded her M.Sc (2012) in Stratigraphy and Paleontology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
Currently, Elisabete is pursuing a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She collaborates with several national and international institutions, including the Dom Luiz Institute, the National Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Lisbon, the Natural History Society (Torres Vedras), and the National University of Distance Education (Madrid). Elisabete's main topics of research are the phylogenetic analysis of theropod dinosaurs, paleoenvironmental and taphonomic interpretations and paleobiogeographic evolution of the theropod faunas from the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous of Iberia.

Elisabete is researching towards her Ph.D. on the record of theropod dinosaurs from the Upper Jurassic of the Lusitanian Basin. Her project focuses mainly on the phylogeny and paleobiogeographic history of theropod dinosaurs from the Upper Jurassic of Portugal. She has a vast experience in paleontological fieldwork having participated in several excavation campaigns in Portugal, Spain, and the United States. She has also a large experience in scientific education and diffusion, having collaborated in several museological projects about paleontology, such as in the Museu da Comunidade Concelhia da Batalha, Natural History Society and National Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Lisbon.
