Position Summary The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science, research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is seeking a part-time Youth Initiatives Digital Educator to teach science courses for New York City youth in on-site museum programs. Courses are for middle school and high school aged children, and can take many different formats, including a 12-hour Friday afternoon course, a 24-hour after-school research course that meets twice a week and is co-taught with a scientist, a 30-hour middle school institute that runs in the summer and over vacation breaks, and numerous different courses that run on weekends.

The candidate must be able to learn and deliver courses in a manner that aligns with the Museum’s student-centered pedagogical approach that strives to engage and excite youth through museum-based, hands-on, interactive learning. Ideal candidates must be available to work select Saturdays and Sundays, and when working on weekdays, be available to teach until 6:30pm.

The Educator will report directly to and will be supervised by the Senior Manager of Curriculum and Teaching.

Required Qualifications Must have a Bachelor’s degree in education, science or technology

Must have experience with tools and methods of science visualization in the natural sciences (biology, earth science, or paleontology)

Must have experience with 3D printing and game design

Experience teaching urban youth is required

Preferred Qualifications Experience creating educational activities designed to teach students the skills necessary to use various technology is preferred

Experience co-teaching considered a plus

Experience with Skyrim and Sculptris considered a plus

Master’s degree in education or science or technology is a plus
